As I traveled back from Nannypalooza, I thought about why it is essential to attend these events for nannies.
Learning!
Nanny conferences are great opportunities to learn. You attend sessions that give you insight into something you maybe didn't know about or had heard of but wanted to learn more about.
The sessions are not long enough for you to become an expert, but they are long enough to answer some questions and inspire you to examine the subject further.
The sessions are run by Nannies, agencies, advocates, etc. So you know they have been there and done that.
I used to love returning to my charges with new ideas and inspiration!
Networking
When you attend a conference, you meet people. One of the most significant benefits Nannies might gain from a conference is that they may have "met" people online. This is your opportunity to meet them in person, exchange ideas, make new friends, and feel less lonely in your daily life as a nanny. I know nannying can be isolating.
Meeting agencies
Agencies attend conferences; they have booths at conferences and are there for you to speak with—what a fantastic opportunity to present yourself to a recruiter or agency owner. Bring a resume, sign up for the agency's newsletter, and get some swag. Yes, agencies have swag! Recruiters who meet you in person will remember you for years to come.
Get advice
Nannypalooza had a great Friday afternoon session for nannies to get advice on job searches; this is an invaluable help to anyone looking for a new job or thinking ahead and preparing for a job search.
Travel
Conferences are held in different locations each year; they are great opportunities to travel and see new places, visit new cities, and learn about the history of each site. Travel opens your mind, so what better way to combine learning and travel than attending a conference?
