Alright, dear readers, buckle up for a ride into the more serious side of my life. We've explored the quirks, and the jokes—now, let's dive into the heart of the matter. Why did I become a nanny? Well, it's a journey filled with twists, turns, and a few surprising detours.

Childhood Dreams and Growing Up Tall

Dreaming of the Skies - my nanny journey

Back in the days of my youth, I had my sights set on being an air hostess. Yes, before they became flight attendants. But reality struck, and it turned out I was destined to be too tall for the job. Plus, who needs all that makeup, right?

The Italian Dilemma

In Italy, you've got to choose your future career path at the ripe old age of 12 or 13. A momentous decision made more challenging by the fact that I started school a year early. So, there I was at 11, contemplating my destiny. Business vocational school it was—bookkeeping and finance. Not exactly my passion, but hey, a girl's got to have a backup plan.

Discovering the Joy of 1:1

As the business books piled up, I stumbled upon a realization—I was good with children. Really good. Patience was my middle name, but I knew traditional teaching wasn't my jam. I craved more intimate, 1:1 interactions.

A Fostered Spark

Enter a little foster girl into our lives. She stayed with us for two years, and that was the turning point. My mum, the sage of all things childcare, introduced me to the concept of a nanny. Now, nannies weren't exactly a dime a dozen in Italy back then. Fun fact: My mum was an AuPair in Sicily and met my dad that way.

Nanny Schools and a Quirky Fit

Norland and Chiltern Adventures

So, the quest for nanny knowledge began. Norland and Chiltern were options, but their vibes didn't seem to align with my quirky nature, making me question whether they were the right fit for me. I mean, come on, I'm quirky—I needed a place that embraced that. Enter a college near my grandparents' UK home, offering the N.N.E.B. course (Nursery Nursing Examination Board).

A Quirky Spot on the Course

After a cross-continental journey and an entrance exam, voila, I secured a spot on the course. Two intense years of training awaited me, but hey, who said becoming a nanny was a walk in the park?

The NNEB Experience

The ABCs of N.N.E.B.

N.N.E.B., the golden ticket in nanny education. It delved deep into the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of different ages. First aid, hygiene, appropriate play—covered it all. Hands-on experiences in hospitals, schools, and with families were part of the curriculum, prepping us for the versatile world of childcare.

Choosing the Nanny Path

With the N.N.E.B. under my belt, I faced a crucial choice—where to apply my newfound knowledge. I chose private homes. Why? The daily interactions, the smaller group setting, and the chance to witness children's growth and development up close.

The Joy of Nannying

More Than a Job

Why did I choose to be a nanny? Well, I found joy in the daily interactions, in understanding how children learn and communicate. The ability to form lasting relationships with the little ones was priceless. My parents' fostering experience and my deep dive into child psychology during training solidified my path.

Making a Difference

In hindsight, I'm happy with my choice. Being a nanny allowed me to make a difference in many children's lives. It's not just a job; it's a journey of impact, growth, and mutual learning.

So, there you have it—the story behind the nanny. What about you? Why did you become a nanny, and what fuels your passion for working with children? Share your stories, and let's celebrate the heartwarming journey of making a difference in the lives of the little ones we care for.
